Every metre of genuine Harris Tweed® is made from pure virgin wool and handwoven by islanders in their own homes before being finished in the Outer Hebrides. Its rich colours, distinctive textures and exceptional durability give each piece a character all of its own.

How is Harris Tweed® made?
The journey of Harris Tweed® begins with pure virgin wool, which is carefully dyed before being blended to create the beautiful depth of colour the fabric is known for. Rather than relying on a single flat shade, different coloured fibres can be mixed together to produce distinctive tones inspired by the landscapes of the Scottish islands.
The yarn is then spun and prepared before being sent to skilled weavers across the Outer Hebrides. Using traditional looms, the cloth is handwoven in the weavers' own homes, following techniques that have been passed down through generations.
Once woven, the fabric is returned for finishing and inspection. Only cloth that meets the required standards can carry the famous Harris Tweed® Orb certification.
