Lochcarron

Lochcarron Mill is located in the historic town of Selkirk in the Scottish Borders, a peaceful and picturesque area known for its rich textile heritage and scenic countryside.

The mill is one of Scotland’s last working textile factories, offering guided tours and a heritage shop featuring kilts, tweeds, and knitwear. Selkirk itself is a small, friendly town with deep cultural roots, historic buildings, and local events like the annual Common Riding festival.

Scottish Heritage

Historically, tartans were associated with Scottish clans - extended family groups - each having its own unique pattern. Wearing your clan’s tartan was (and still is) a way of showing pride in your heritage.

Tartan is a powerful symbol of Scottish heritage, pride, and identity. Woven not just into fabric, but into the very fabric of Scotland’s history.

100% Scottish Wool

Nestled in the heart of the Scottish Borders, the Lochcarron of Scotland headquarters is home to an authentic textile weaving mill and the world’s leading tartan manufacturing operation.

They take immense pride in traditional craftsmanship and rich textile heritage. From initial design and weaving to expert kilt-making, much of their production takes place in-house at the locharron mill and dedicated sewing workroom. This hands-on approach allows for complete control over every stage of the process, ensuring authenticity, exceptional quality, and meticulous attention to detail in every piece we create.

Royal Connections

Diana, Princess of Wales is affectionally remembered as an individual who cared passionately for others. The people’s princess made everyone feel special and valued with her warm compassion and kindness.

After receiving official approval Alistair Buchan, Chairman of Lochcarron of Scotland designed the memorial tartan in 1997 as a tribute to Diana’s lasting memory. Based on a variation of the Royal Stewart tartan, the colours are inspired by the princess’s character. its charming blue base is complimented by turquoise, white, red and black overchecks.
